Hey guys, several minor reasons are causing this, but nothing serious. The biggest ones being (1) that "WWFM" won't die at HAC and make way for those stations to consider "IIHY" yet, and (2) that we need the "IIHY" video to launch and help push the single. Adam was still tinkering with the final edit last week, or else we would have launched a week ago today, but we should have a final cut today or tomorrow, barring any additional unforeseen changes. I've been juggling the possible premiere partners throughout these delays (Vevo, MySpace, Yahoo, AOL, everyone really has submitted great plans for the right to the U.S. online exclusive) and will pick the best of the bunch based on what they can deliver on the day that we wind up premiering the video. I'm hoping that will be thursday or friday of this week, but don't hold me to that, OK?

Adam has yet to have a #1 like Gaga or Ke$ha...those things count for something. Adam hasn't had that, and you also have to factor in issues like traffic, style and perception that affect how stations program their playlists. Adam is an oddball/unique artist and so that makes it harder for stations to figure out where he fits into their playlist. Most top 40 stations understand their listeners enough to decide how many female dance artists (Gaga, Ke$ha, etc.), how many corporate rock bands (Daughtry, Nickelback, etc.), how many urban/rhythmic songs, etc., they can have contributing to a balanced playlist. "Balance" being their definition, not ours. So unless a song comes along that's so undeniable it makes these questions of "slotting" irrelevant, it takes a lot more work on our part to explain/convince these stations why they should take a chance on it, wait out the weeks and weeks it'll take for research to come back, and so forth. Billions of details and arguments come into play, and that's, again, why this is a JOB handled by professionals instead of fly by night guesswork. You'd be flabbergasted at the volume of data we crunch week in a bid to convince the stations to play this or that song. Your requests certainly help though, as will the video, the general awareness generated by Adam's tour. The artist also has to do his part to win over those station PDs, MDs, and DJs, of course. We recently had a chat with Adam about this, and I believe he committed to doing the legwork along the tour route. Team effort all around.

It's a perception thing, as much as a format thing..."WWFM" has to clear the freak out somewhat so "IIFY" can take center stage as the key single. This isn't a CC.com-specific thing, as much as a radio thing - the song simply hasn't blown people's minds on par with other singles and will therefore require WORK. That's how it goes, and our radio team just got Ke$ha her second #1, so it's not a matter of ability (they're as good as it gets), just working it up the charts. As for how the video plays into it, it's definitely not US waiting on it to push the single; but the widespread exposure and excitement that only a video can engender across the web and beyond, to help a hit single connect with consumers. That's why we need the dang thing to get approved so we can add its ammunition to our efforts.

Note: We just got word that Adam’s new video for “If I Had You” will be debuting here this Friday, June 11. smile7

Coincidentally enough, we just received the following missive about the video from Adam, which is part of our continuing series of VH1 Posted entries. Take it away!

The “If I Had You” video shoot was something I had anticipated for some time. In addition to the fantastic beat and melody, the song’s lyrics are what really stand out to me about this uplifting jam. It explores all the glitz of life in celebrity culture but reveals how it can all be a facade without true connectivity to others. The message is one of Love. Over the past year, in addition to my unbelievable opportunities, I have also been faced with the unique challenge of staying positive in light of some critics and closed mindedness. My friends, family, and my devoted fans have been a key force in keeping me grounded. I wanted to make a video that paid tribute to the wonderful people who’ve inspired me to become the artist and spirit I am today.

Director Bryan Barber’s video treatment fit so perfectly with my intention! His vision was so clear! I was a big fan of his previous work and he was so easy to collaborate with. The type of gathering he wanted to re-create was one similar to the Burning Man Festival I have often cited as a major artistic turning point in my life. The impact of this experience has mostly to do with the eclectic community that it draws. About 5 years ago, after growing bored and unsatisfied with the cliché Hollywood “scene,” I discovered this fascinating counter-culture of underground designers, performance artists and various bohemians. So we agreed to invite my real-life friends to be a part of the video!

To ensure an authentic representation of unique individuals, instead of using one stylist, everyone was asked to dress themselves however they desired. All we told them was: “Psychedelic tribal party in the forest!” One of the main themes I wanted to get across is that no matter your race, sexuality, age, or religion, we can all come together in the spirit of peace and love and have fun!

We shot overnight near LA’s Griffith Park and had a blast. I had way too much fun in my trailer getting styled. I was dressed in Galliano, The Blondes, and Skingraft. We fused high Glam rock with a boho-tribal-world traveler vibe. I’m lucky to work with such a creative glam team!

I was also thrilled to feature my band, dancers and a special guest all of whom will be appearing on my upcoming Glam Nation tour.

I believe that this video is the perfect follow up to the angst of “Whataya Want From Me.” If that song begged to ask the questions, this one joyfully gives the answers. Enjoy!

We just got word that Adam and his team are putting the finishing touches on the “If I Had You” video (yay!), but this means that the debut of the video is going to have to be bumped back until next week.
