RCA recording artist and former American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert is about to launch his first ever U.S. headlining tour and will kick things off at the F.M. Kirby Center on Friday, June 4 at 8:00 p.m. with special guests Orianthi and Allison Iraheta.

Lambert is heading out in support of his debut album, For Your Entertainment, which was released in November of 2009, and debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, selling 198,000 copies in the United States in its first week.

Adam Lambert's sold-out show at the F.M. Kirby Center tonight has generated a fan frenzy on par with a famous comedian's 2004 appearance, said the venue's director of marketing and sales.

"It's really the first time we've seen this kind of buzz and this kind of response for a show since Jerry Seinfeld first came here," Will Beekman said.

Lambert's ticket sales for the opening show of his first headlining tour also bested sales for fellow American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken's sold-out "Christmas in the Heartland" show in 2007, Beekman said.

"Clay Aiken sold out as well, but over time," he said.

Fans snatched up approximately 1,800 tickets during regular ticket sales and an online pre-sale for Kirby and fan-club members, Beekman said. Though officials cannot exactly measure just how fast tickets sold out, the sales moved more rapidly than expected, he said.

"We expected it to go very quickly, but not as quickly as it did," he said.

The concert also helped increase traffic to the Kirby's social media web pages. The venue's Twitter and Facebook pages are burgeoning with new followers, he said.

"It's definitely a spotlight that we're not used to seeing, at least not this large of a spotlight," he said.

Tickets were at a premium on Thursday, said Joellen Ferrer, spokeswoman for Stub Hub, an online marketplace for ticket resale.

The site listed six tickets for sale in the morning, but by 4 p.m., only a pair of balcony seats remained.

The tickets, originally sold for $41 through Ticketmaster, are now priced at $153. Tickets for the show sold for an average of $160 per ticket through Stub Hub, she said. (dã man =))

"It really just depends what primary sales were looking like and what the demand is," Ferrer said. "Sellers will often change prices to meet demand."

Stub Hub does not set prices or own tickets sold via its Web site, Ferrer said. The site manages the exchange of tickets between the seller and the buyer, guaranteeing the authenticity of tickets and making sure they are delivered on time, she said.

Tickets were also listed for sale on Craigslist and Ebay. Prices were as high as $600 for two tickets with backstage passes.

The show will also feature Orianthi, who sings the pop hit "According to You" and was slated to play guitar in Michael Jackson's "This Is It" tour, and Allison Iraheta, a contestant from American Idol's eighth season who made it into the top four.

Lambert will play 30 shows in the U.S., according to the Ticketmaster Web site.

All around the country, Lambert fans are scurrying to get ready for the concert of the millennium, charging their phones and camera batteries, packing their cars, driving to airports. The excitement is palpable - weather pundits may be scratching their heads at the sudden dramatic rise in temperature today, but we know the truth. There is fire in the belly of fans everywhere today, people breaking out in sweats and the mere thought of seeing Lambert live on stage tonight. That heat has to go somewhere, right?

"Finally there is real music again" one fan starts to explain when her phone rings. "I'll pick you up in one hour" she hurriedly tells the caller as she apologizes profusely for the interruption. "This tour will be EPIC. We haven't seen anything like this in decades, and I intend to be a part of this moment in history. This boy is destined for great things and the real question is whether or not the world is ready for his mindf*ck" she says with a loaded smile.

One can easily feel the fever-pitch of excitement, as the hour draws closer. Mr. Lambert is here for your entertainment, and as he heads to the stage to strut his stuff tonight, we expect this concert to be one of many sure fire winners. The seal has been broken open, and this writer fully expects to see hords of sleepwalkers, drenched in sweat, reeling from the inevitable mindf*ck of one Mr. Adam Lambert. If I had you in front of me right now Mr. Lambert, and you asked "whattaya want from me" the answer would be simple: whatever you've got to give, Mr. Lambert, that's what I want from you.

Superstar and former American Idol, Adam Lambert kicks off his highly-anticipated Glam Nation tour tonight. The singer took to his Twitter account to mention this fact. Tickets have been sold, fans are in anticipation, and now, fans that have been waiting for the chance to see the singer perform have their wish come true starting tonight.

Lambert writes:

The Glam Nation tour kicks off tonight at the F.M. Kirby Center for Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Tomorrow night the singer will perform in Sayreville, New Jersey at the Starland Ballroom, and then at the Dutchess Stadium in Wappinger Falls, New York (KFEST 2010) on Sunday.

Take a trip with an ‘Idol’ star
As he gets ready to kick off his first-ever headlining tour in Wilkes-Barre tonight, it is sometimes easy to forget that Adam Lambert didn’t actually win “American Idol.”
His debut album, “For Your Entertainment,” is No. 62 on the Billboard 200, having moved up 10 notches in the past week in anticipation of the “Glam Nation” extravaganza. “Whataya Want From Me,” that album’s second single, peaked at No. 10 and is currently No. 29 as next single “If I Had You” is picking up steam. Season eight champion Kris Allen, who is opening shows as Lambert is headlining, is noticeably absent from both charts.

Last week’s “Idol” finale and send-off for departing judge Simon Cowell was attended by seven past champions and a host of other former contestants, but Lambert made more headlines for not being there.

And it is seemingly impossible to get a few minutes of his time these days for a one-on-one interview, as reporters from The Times Leader and roughly 40 other publications had to make do with a one-hour conference call two days before the start of the big tour.

“The show is really built for the fans,” Lambert said on the call. “I always make a point of listening to my fan base and finding out what the general consensus is. We will be doing the songs they love and the songs that lyrically and thematically represent me.”

The 70-show, three-month trek with opening acts Allison Iraheta (fourth-place finisher from the same “American Idol” season as Lambert) and singer-songwriter/guitarist extraordinaire Orianthi will start with a sold-out show at the F.M. Kirby Center tonight. Other shows within driving distance include: June 23 and 24 at the Nokia Theatre in New York City, June 26 at the Borgata in Atlantic City, Aug. 12 at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby (Philadelphia) and Aug. 13 at Musikfest in Bethlehem.

The 28-year-old singer said he was really involved in the creative process of putting together the visuals for the tour and said the look will be “turn-of-the-century New Orleans meets psychedelic, classic rock.”

“Getting to conceptualize my first headlining tour and translating the material and making it come alive on stage has been amazing,” he said. “My background in musical theater came out a lot in this production. There is definitely a thematic through line running throughout the show.

“It’s really a strong message of love,” he continued. “As clich� as it sounds, it’s definitely true.”

After finishing second to Allen in May of 2009 in a still-controversial vote that may have had some people voting against the flamboyant Lambert rather than for the more conservative Allen (there were also some photos of Lambert kissing another man that made the rounds prior to the finale), Lambert’s first order of business was to come out in a “Rolling Stone” cover story.

“For me, for my career, I wanted it to be an open book,” Lambert said Wednesday. “I have lived in L.A. for eight years and have always kind of rolled my eyes at those who were trying to live up to an image and not being honest. It’s just easier for me to be who I am.

“It definitely comes with some pressure,” he said about being one of the first openly gay stars signed to a major label. “There’s a lot of challenges with being one of the first, but it is also exciting to be kind of a novelty in that respect.”

Lambert’s debut album was recorded during the “American Idols Live” tour and entered the charts at No. 3 in early December 2009, selling 198,000 copies in its first week.

“When you record for a major label, you have access to some of the biggest, most talented people in the business,” he said. “I’m really proud of the album because it is super diverse and shows all of my different sides.”

As for the controversy surrounding his “no show” at the “Idol” finale and rehearsals, Lambert said it was much ado about nothing.

“I wasn’t invited,” he said. “The group song tribute to Simon was for past winners, so I was invited for that. They invited me to come be in the audience, but I was too busy getting ready for the tour. Had I known there was going to be a performance (with the other non-winning “Idol” alumni), I would have maybe changed my plans.”

Turning the conversation back to the tour, Lambert said the first song will be “Voodoo,” which was recorded for the album but not released until his “Remixes” EP in April.

“It is a sexy, kitschy song, not to be taken too seriously about New Orleans and voodoo and all that,” he said. “When I was going through other ideas, I found that all of (my songs) could live in that world, so that’s the direction it took.”

The look of the show also draws inspiration from artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Keith Richards, Lambert said.

“With the psychedelic rock and the voodoo, it’s kind of a spooky, sexy, mysterious type thing. And I am inviting the audience to take a trip with me into that world.”
